Much to my surprise, and with massive gratitude toward my friends Jack and Geri, I will be attending Chicon 8, the 80th World Science Fiction Convention.
I can't overstate my surprise and gratitude. I was introduced to SFF fandom via my first convention, Suncon, the 1977 Worldcon, made my first and only trans-atlantic trip to attend Seacon, the 19 79 Worldcon in Brighton, and last attended a Worldcon in 1982 - also a Chicon, and the place I discovered Minneapolis fandom. I have been away from 3D science fiction for several years, with my activity almost 100 percent online.
I have occasionally, wistfully, thought it would be wonderful to go to a convention again. That it is this one, thanks to Jack's decision to transfer his membership to me, and Geri's hospitality, is really rather brilliant.
