Goodbye - You Took the Trailer and the Cowhorns. We Got the Cats.

And, boy, does one of our cats hate that. I'd wondered if Opie would be chill or freaked out, given his differing reactions to Tommy and Lily the last two times we cat sit them. He went with freaked out. We've had them since Friday night, and have had two sleepless nights. Lily is still a bully (probably because she's freaked out, too, but the behavior is no help at all), while our Phil and Tommy are very laid back - or as laid back as they can be, when two other cats are hissing and growling almost non-stop.

We'll figure something out, but right now it's high stress time at Casa KathBob. (Update: we just got a Feliway multi-cat household diffuser, which should start working in 7 days; that seems like a long time, but since we're going to have them two weeks or more, it could give us some relief. I also fed Opie a chew treat that claims to support calm. I like the fact that it doesn't claim it can cause calm. And Opie's now conked out on the couch, Phil right next two him, and the two interlopers across the room on the large cat tree. Dare I hope that we may be able to have an uninterrupted sleep tonight?)

Oh, yeah, and we said goodbye to Andy and Emily at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Emily's mother and stepdad were there, which wasn't optimal, since Amy is ... problematic. I'll leave it at that. And it's petty of me to want to have the two kids (who are not kids, of course, since they're in their 30s, but, hey, mom) to myself. Amy's in the same boat I am; seeing her first-born moving the farthest away she's ever moved.

They're caravan-ing it across the country with a rental van (which includes all the worldly goods they could stuff into it, including the aforementioned cow horns), and a trailer holding Andy's car. He drives Emily's car, while Emily and Dave, her absolutely wonderful friend/former boss/father of one of Andy's school friends, handle the van. I think Andy will eventually swap places with Emily, since he has some experience driving a truck. They called us from South Dakota, where they were preparing to see Mount Rushmore, and get some sleep. I hope Andy sends pics; he's seeing more of the country than Bob and I have.

Do I feel bereft? Do I fear for them?  Yeah, a tad. But, as Bob put it, "Now the adventure begins!" And when he put it that way, it made me feel better. Still, my tension will take a while to melt away, and in the meantime, my back is being a bitch. Ah, well ....

Anyhow, here are two pictures from the goodbye morning. I
note that the pictures are much better on Dreamwidth. LJ shrinks them so you don't have pictures that move beyond the frame of the post, which is nice, but it also means that larger pictures get shrunk.

Plus a goodbye selfie which Andy insisted on taking. Selfie generation, that's him.
